Default Throttle by Wire

My throttle on my 09 Ultra bas become jerky at best. It will snap back if you just twist and release. It is when you want to apply small amounts of power. It has resistance then a short jerk which causes the bike to jerk also. I have lubed the control and handlebar with no success. Can the unit inside the handlebars be lubricated? Any suggestions since dealer said to replace the unit.

Hate to say it, but the TBW assy's pressed together so you've probably lubed every moving part, but the internals are sealed to dis-assembly would pretty much be pointless. By the time you dissect and attempt to fix/troubleshoot you can have a new SE-TBW assy installed and functional. I'd just fork over the $105 for TGS (part#32310-08) and swap...JMO.

You mean it physically sticks right? New grips by chance?

If so open the switch housing where it clamps around the groove of the throttle grip.
There shouldn't be any rub marks in that groove.

I had bought a set of pm grips and it was doing that. I called pm they said we never heard that before, send them in. I sent in the throttle side and they found that their manufacturer of the pressed in plastic groove part was built just a hair off causing the rub. They had it fixed and sent me a new set.

Replace the unit, when the dealership installed my bars they put a longer wired tbw in and it did exactly the same thing you described. Turned out to be a faulty tbw, they replaced it and it works fine now. My guess is that yours is worn out.

where does it unplug and how do you get the wires thru the bars. Sounds like a major ordeal to just change it out. The $105 seems to be the small part of this project.

you'll need to unplug inside the fairing, de-pin the connector that houses the wires and then pull it through.

I agree with Gliden.. before you go pulling wires, check that the groove in the grip is clean and not in a bind where the grip connects to the switch housing.

I just put it back together---AGAIN---all moving parts that I can see are lubed and not in a bind. It looks internal and like another new part is in order. That sux.

If you want to replace the stock one, you don't have to run the wires. You can change it by pulling the TGS out of the bar far enough to unplug it from the green connector. 30 minute job max...If you can't do it, head over to Biloxi and I will take care of it.
