If its randomly turning the volume all the way down, it could be the thumbswitch on your left handlebar is clogged/jammed/loose

Or it could be the wiring that goes the switch housing that controls the volume. If a wire has sheathing that has been exposed due to wear and the wire grounds out on the inside of the bar or something else metal it can cause this type of issue.

I would upgrade the entire system if it were my bike. I run a Sony head unit with an amp and Biketronics speakers in place of my stock stuff. Unfortunately we do not do audio install here but I am sure I can get you the parts and send you to another local shop if you want to get an upgrade.

Feel free to give us a call and we can see what works for you.

Before you spend money, read through this. It is the diagnostics for the HK radio. Everything you ever wanted to know, and then some.

http://g-homeserver.com/content/atta...stics.pdf.html

Radio Diagnostic Display
While depressing and holding any two softkeys (buttons 1-6),
turn the ignition switch to ON. Once the H-D logo is displayed,
the system automatically performs a complete switch check,
scans for current DTCs, and then displays the radio
diagnostic display. Release the softkeys only after the radio
diagnostic display appears. See A of Figure 6-1.
Press softkey 1, labeled “Run Test,” to perform an abbreviated
switch test after the initial complete test is performed. To
perform the complete test a second time, simply cycle the
ignition switch, that is, turn the ignition switch to OFF, and
then after a delay of at least ten seconds, turn the switch back
to ON while depressing and holding any two softkeys.
If, after the intial diagnostic check, any switches are found to
be shorted to B+ or ground, the radio diagnostic display
reports the applicable DTC and an abbreviated description.
Refer to the appropriate flow chart for resolution of the
problem. See B of Figure 6-1.
If no switches are found to be shorted to B+ or ground, the
technician may press selected switches to verify functionality.
If a switch is functioning properly, the display shows the
switch name and the word “OK.” If the switch is not working
correctly, then the display does not change. All switches,
handlebar, passenger, and sidecar, may be tested in this
manner. See C of Figure 6-1.

Thanks for the info will run the scan tomorrow. Spoke with Tony at Iron Cross today, very helpful guy, he thinks it might be the volume switch itself. So will start there. Really didnt mind the sound quality of the HK so just getting sounds again would be great.

My cruise control kept turning off. I ended up spraying some contact cleaner in the switch housing. Never had a problem since. It's worth a try. JR

Best advice. Push all the buttons, work all the controls.
Short story. I tried using my ATM card the other day and I couldnt get one of the numbers to work on the keypad. Lady was ready to shut the line down before I noticed the 2 button was stuck not allowing any other number to be pushed. All ended well without shutting the whole line down.

I had to replace my cruise control switch because it was randomly setting itself and speeding up and slowing down. I would set the volume on the radio and then take off the outer fairing and unplug the left side controls put the fairing back on and then go for a ride. If it takes care of the issue it is more than likely your switch. Be prepared the cruise switch was$62. It comes with new wires. I cut my old wires by the switch soldered them together and pulled the new ones through the plastic sheath cut it back apart and then soldered the wires together about 3 inches from the connector. Everything is color coded. It sucks but can be done.

Ps. Once u unhook the left handlebar switches all functions will be lost not sure if the headlight will work without a control for high beam or dim tho.

I have tried to update the software on the HK but it doesn't finish the process. What I need is a shop here in LA I can take my bike to that is trust worthy, I'll start researching audio shops shortly. Sounds like its the volume switch or the wires from it that is the problem. Thanks for all the info and suggestions.
