Default Dumb question

I sold my road king classic which obviously had running lights and bought a 2014 Street glide special. I did a coast ride around Michigan last weekend and had a couple of cars on the the other side of the freeway flash their brights so im thinking cop ahead. Well as I was entering the tunnel of trees an oncoming car did it to me again so it made me think am I supposed to ride with brights on during the day? I put them on and felt bad for the car in front of me but finished my trip with them on during the day. Is this protocol?

Lots of people ride with their brights on, during the day. Of course they irritate oncoming drivers. You have to decide if the increased visibility is worth irritating others, and possibly distracting them from watching where they are going. I don't do it.

I am an optometrist, and know that bright lights are especially irritating to anybody with cataracts. Or the many people running around with uncorrected refractive errors.

IMHO...during the daytime, the brighter the lights, and the broader the spread the better.

But, I do not agree with the blinking headlight thing. I think that actually causes opposing drivers to fixate on the blinking.

I know that on some of the new bikes during parts of the day you can hardley tell if the lights are on . and the Rushmores seem to have the lights aimed low . I road at night a couple of times with the brights on just to see .Never got brights flashed at me. Readjusted the light and it made a big differance .

If you have the Daymaker headlamp it may be adjusted a little high on low beam for some drivers thinking you're high beam is on. My wife's CVO Softail Deluxe has the Daymakers in her passing lamps. They are aimed a little high and they are "Bright" but I don't want to mess with them as I may never get them both adjusted back the same level.
I drive for a living and when I meet a bike at night on high beams I never try flashing him/her down.
Just a thought.

It is rare to pick up a bike from a dealer with the head light adjusted properly. It should be done with you in the saddle at proper distance from a target. Bright lights are good but only if adjusted right and not to blind oncoming traffic.
