I live in the high desert in California. I'll ride all year, even occasionally on days in the high teens. The difference here is the roads are generally clean and dry, no salt, or sand (unless you head up into the higher elevations nearby…which I don't do much, in the winter).
The temps I can dress for. But snow (we get some) and ice…no, thanks. Don't like rain, neither…
I have an un-faired bike. It won't see much duty for the next four months, or so. But the bagger gets ridden year-round.
Somehow I got to be an old man. I don't know how many more years riding will be fun, so I try to make the best of the time. Otherwise, I'd probably be less 'dutiful' about riding during the cold months...

For the OP...yes, it sux and hope you get some more miles next season.
For me...this is why I have two...while the FLHX sleeps, my Sportster keeps chugging through until snow/salt time...then she wait for clear roads again.
A way of life for some of us and a seasonal hobby for others.
Lighten up on the guy, at least he made a decision on his own without posting and asking permission first.
