My 2015 SGS has the factory 4" fairing shield with the air flow divert through the fairing to assist in head buffeting. At 60 mph plus, I am still getting a lot of wind in the face. Wondering if replacing the shield with a 6" or 8" will make much of a difference. Anything larger probably won't look right. Any thoughts or suggestions? Have any of you changed out the fairing shield or noticed any improvements by doing so? or is it not worth the expense?
So I have a 15 SGS and went with two Long Ride Shields "2014 Ultra Shield" I picked up a 7" dark tint and a 10" dark tint. I like the 7" dark tint one the best. I can see over it while riding and it still looks ok on the bike. When I ride without a helmet it feels fine and my glasses stay in place but when I wear my helmet I can still get some wind hitting the top of the helmet at highway speeds.
I can see over the 10" dark tint one but most of the time I end up looking through it with the way I sit. I'm not crazy about the way it looks on the bike (to tall) but it does block the most amount of wind of course. I should have gotten the 10" in clear.
The factory Street Glide shield is more about looks than anything else.
One of the first mods most people make (at least those that do much highway riding).
I went with a " Recurve from Clearview, and am very happy with it.
There are other vendors selling similar shields.
With the recurve option, you don't need to get one as tall to serve the same purpose.
The OEM shield is all show and no go. AKA... useless over 25mph.
I have extra light tinted LRS 7" and 8" shields I'll sell for $60 ea. I finally settled on a 8" wide flat top shield from LRS. We can even install them to see how they look.
I agree with all the above - factory shield is useless. I'm a hair over 6' - I use the HD 7" Windsplitter here: http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...ter-windshield on my '13 SG. I get some wind hitting the top of the helmet, could probably use an 8".
