Default Security System Code

I'm sure that this has probably been covered in another thread, but I can't seem to find it. I bought my 09 SG used. That being said I didn't even think about a security code when I picked the bike up. Is there a way to retrieve the number or do I need to go to the dealership?

If you have the fob you can retrieve the code and set your own. Get a service manual, or an owners manual. It will explain in detail. Good luck!

I've got the service manual and I don't see it there, and I didn't get the owners manual.

Do you have a working FOB for the bike now?
If so, then yes you can view and change the current code.

To Change PIN Number

1. Select a 5-digit (1 thru 9) PIN and write it down
2. With an assigned fob present, turn IGN switch : On-Off-On-Off-On
3. Press left turn signal switch 3 times
4. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (Turn signals will flash 3 times and current PIN will be displayed in the odometer with 1st digit flashing)
5. Enter first digit of new PIN by pressing left turn signal switch “a” times (a = 1st digit of new PIN)
6. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (New digit “a” will replace the current in odometer window)
7. Enter 2nd digit of new PIN by pressing left turn signal switch “b” times (b = 2nd digit of new PIN)
8. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (New digit “b” will replace the current in odometer window)
9. Enter 3rd digit of new PIN by pressing left turn signal switch “c” times (c = 3rd digit of new PIN)
10. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (New digit “c” will replace the current in odometer window)
11. Enter 4th digit of new PIN by pressing left turn signal switch “d” times (d = 4th digit of new PIN)
12. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (New digit “d” will replace the current in odometer window)
13. Enter 5th digit of new PIN by pressing left turn signal switch “e” times (e= 5th digit of new PIN)
14. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (New digit “e” will replace the current in odometer window)
15. Before the module rearms, turn the ignition key to OFF (Odometer will return to mileage - Turning Ignition kehy to OFF stores the new PIN in the module)

If you don't have a current working FOB, then you won't be able to do any of the above.
You will need to see a dealer.

Once you get the security code set, be sure and verify that it works and you know how to start the bike without the FOB present.
It will come in handy one day.

Using the Security Alarm PIN Override

1. Turn the IGN key to IGNITION and immediately hold both turn signal switches until 5 dashes appear in the odometer window.
2. Enter the first digit of your PIN by pressing the left turn signal switch (x) times (whatever the first PIN number digit is)
3. Press the right turn signal switch 1 time to move to the next digit.
4. Enter the second digit of your PIN by pressing the left turn signal switch (x) times (whatever the 2nd digit is)
5. Press the right turn signal switch 1 time to move to the next digit.
6. Enter the third digit of your PIN by pressing the left turn signal switch (x) times (whatever the 3rd digit is)
7. Press the right turn signal switch 1 time to move to the next digit.
8. Enter the forth digit of your PIN by pressing the left turn signal switch (x) times (whatever the 4th digit is)
9. Press the right turn signal switch 1 time to move to the next digit.
10. Enter the fifth digit of your PIN by pressing the left turn signal switch (x) times (whatever the 5th digit is)
11. Press the right turn signal switch 1 time to move to the next digit.
12. Press the right turn signal switch one time and the security system alarm is turned off.

The bike should start now.

its a simple process, as long as you have a working fob with you.

1. turn ignition on-off-on-off-on
2. hit your left turn signal 3 times
3. hit your right turn signal once

your turn signals will flash 3 times and the current pin will show in your odometer.

if you want to change the pin, now is the time to do it. to do so, press your left turn signal switch until the number you want shows in the odometer, then press your right turn signal button. that will switch you to the next digit in the pin, do the same thing until you have entered all 5 digits. then simply turn the ignition off.

for the owner's manual thing, you can go to the owner's tab on h-d.com. then owner's manuals under 'maintain your bike'. if you haven't set up a profile on h-d.com, you'll need to do so, but if you have one, simply sign in and select your year/bike and you can read the owner's manual online.

You should probably buy an owners manual.
There is lots of very useful information there.

Yeah, but your instructions are shorter and look less intimidating.

No need to buy one, Harley has owners manuals on line in the owners section, just register your bike and you get access to it.
