Default Winter Project: progressive mono tubes, stock or lower it?

Hi Gang.

planning on up grading the front end on my 2005 Ultra Classic, i do mostly touring 1 up and pull a trailer some times, I was thinking of doing the chrome lowers at the same time, So the question is should i lower the bike at the same time? I would have to do the rear also, I have progressive shocks i did a few years before, i would also have to take off my centre stand
So i am leaning to keep it stock height, but would like to see what the "forum" thinks

I also just picked up the progressive monotube kit for my Road King. I went with the 2" lowering kit only because I am also mounting up a 21" front wheel which is 1.5" taller then the stock 16" wheel.

The weather down here has been beautiful so I'm not trying to take my bike apart yet, come January the progressives are going in with some new Legend revo's out back, true track, Roland Sands wheels and a bunch of other do dads living in boxes waiting for the weather to turn.

Good luck with your set up!

Why lower it if you are fine riding it as it is at present? Leave ride height stock!

I will be the jerk that says lower it. Why, because I LIKE lowered Harleys. No other reason really. I simply am willing to sacrifice ride quality for looks, feel and style. Are you? That's really the question.

If you're going to pull the lowers to put chrome on, why not put the stock height Monotubes in while you have it apart? No need to lower it if you're happy with the height, just upgrade the suspension!

Keep the stock height, if you lower it, it will change the handling and you will lose travel which to me is very important while touring.

Ultra Classic...stock height if you're going to use it as a touring bike.

Loosing suspension travel compromises the ride quality. Either you have to stiffen up the springs and damping to keep from bottoming out, or you just enjoy bottoming it. Either way just isn't really nice.

I'm short legged, so I go back and forth between lowering the bike. Lowered makes it a lot easier for me to handle it on tricky terrain and to shove it backwards. But I do definitely prefer the ride quality of stock height.

So really what do you value more? Having it easier to flat foot and such, or a more plush ride?
