Bought new batteries again... Checked them with my battery tester and they are fully charged. Still bring it right next to bike and it still won't disable alarm. I have tried the turn signal switch method of changing pin, but, it won't display numbers on odometer.. Only mileage.. I wish I could find how to just UNHOOK the alarm so I can at least cruise around town once or twice.
The bike won't display the current PIN, unless you have a working FOB present.
Think about it that...... If you could just change the PIN without a working FOB, there wouldn't be any point in having a security system.
For whatever reason, your bike is recognizing the FOB.
You said the battery was installed correctly, so make sure it is making contact with the tabs inside the FOB.
If you want to ride the bike, just enter the PIN and bypass the security.
The bike will start every time FOB or no FOB after entering the PIN.

what if previous owner doesn't remember pin? tried inputting a new one, didn't seem to take. I'm going to HD at lunch and pick their brains.
When lucky enough to trick the alarm it turns over and starts, but, that doesn't happen often. I'ts starting to really get to me. Every post I read says all you have to do is put new batteries in remote and everything will be good. I know the previous owner didn't have the issue the night I went and picked it up. He did say the remotes needed new batteries, but, like I said, I put new Duracells in again tonight. Positive side down like it says.
He knew about the problem. You find out you need new batteries when the bike won't start. You've done all you can without taking it to the dealership. Your module is under the right side cover. You may try unplugging it and plugging it back in but right now it's too unreliable to ride without getting it fixed.

Had an on again off again problem with wife's alarm system last year. Changed key fob batteries a couple of times but problem would resurface within weeks.
She was getting tired of starting her bike using the pin codes so while on vacation stopped by Rossmyers HD in Daytona to see if they could take a look at the bike. Service writer suggested bending the spring tab in the fob up a bit, he said sometimes the connection isn't strong enough to make contact.
That was nearly a year and a half ago and she's had no alarm issues.
OK. I finally broke down and called the local HD dealer and spoke with a service tech. We talked about everything I had tried, and he suggested just bringing it in. THEN he asked if I happened to put the fob in cup holder on handlebars. I said, "well yeah". He then said that he "knows" that if you put your fob in the cup holder, the signal won't penetrate the stainless steel and the foam. I really thought he was crazy. I took the fob out of the cup holder and sat it in the trunk where it was when I bought it. The bike started right up! WTF.. So, I tried it again.. It started.. I thought BS.. I put the fob back in the cup holder and turned the ignition, nodda... the lights started flashing. I took it out and stuck it in my pocket and she fired right up. I feel like such an idiot. I've been messing with this thing for hours, and something so simple. Thanks to all of you for your help. If nothing else, I have learned a lot by reading the countless posts trying to decipher the problem.
