I like the roadside assitance that comes with my AMA membership, I use to have AAA, but the AMA is every bit as good/better IMO. Covers cars/trucks, motorcycles, RVs, trailers
Same experience here. Used them this summer. Of course they all sub to local contracters. I waited a bit long, not surprisingly, but the guy had soft ties and tie downs and knew what he was doing. Also, AMA is good for repeated use. Not so with basic HOG coverage.
I have AAA motorcycle, State Farm roadside, and HOG. flat tire last year, plug kit in the bike, but left the air compressor in the car. I used HOG and it went well. The tow driver knew his stuff and was a good guy. Overkill with three ways of getting the bike picked up. That episode was the first time I've needed a tow. I could have caught a ride to a parts store and purchased an inexpensive air compressor. would have saved me a couple of hours of sitting around, waiting for the tow. I don't leave the driveway without the 12 volt air compressor now.
Too many horror tales to be read and heard for me. I have yet to need HOG towing or any other feature they offer, so I will not be re upping my membership this or any other year. State Farm and/or AMA will get my future attention.
I have AAA, and have needed it once when my rear caliper locked up.
I was only about 6 miles from home, but was on a hiway where the towing company must be licensed by the state to tow on that hiway. So, AAA called a local tow company who came out with a flat bed. The guy had the special dolly for bikes, soft ties, and the knowledge necessary to load a bike. I was towed to his garage, 10 miles further from home. lol
I then called AAA again, and they sent out another flatbed for me. Same routine, the guy had all the right equipment and knowledge for loading a bike. He took me home, and helped me get the bike from the street into the garage.
AAA Southern New England does not cover RV's or Bikes, have checked it out before. I do have HOG, but never used it. I also have a tow service through insurance, so far have only needed to be towed once, and I was local so the HD dealer came and towed it to their shop.
Used Road America one time, flatbed operator had all of the necessary tie downs and he knew how to haul a bike. He was dispatched by Golden Spike HD in Ogden, Utah. A flat tire, Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM, 2800 miles from home. The reason for the detail is to promote Golden Spike HD and the three techs waiting to replace the tire when we arrived. When passing thru Ogden be sure to stop in at this dealership.
