Hi, Gang.
I have read through the posts here about sound systems for Road Kings (2013 RHFL), and have decided that handlebar mounted speakers suit my riding needs best (no helmet, windshield off for most of summer, maximize luggage space). After reading the reviews about the HD Boom Audio, I'm not sold on the product.
Has anyone out their tried or heard of this sound system...
I would forget any small handlebar mounted speakers if you have any interest in decent sound and/or volume. helmet speakers or ear pods are are much better way to go.
When I owned a RK, I initially looked at the handlebar speakers. I was unimpressed with the sound quality and it cluttered the bars up too much. I ended up getting lower fairings with CVO speaker pods and grills. If you run a 2 speaker set up, I would run a PBR 300x2 and a set of Infinity 62.11i speakers. Good luck on your search!
I ran the uniqcycles system on my old VTX. Bought it used off ebay for around 125.00 I believe. It worked well. Sound quality was ok, better than the Boom kit IMO. Loud enough to hear at hiway speeds. As I said, bought it used off ebay in 2010, it is still working like a champ today, sold it with the bike to a friend I ride with.
I built some speakers for my wifes RK. I made them out of the passing lamp buckets and put some Rockford Fosgate 4.5 speakers in them. I then used a wireless iPod remote and the Rockford Fosgate PBR 300x4 amp and then put some 6x9s in her saddlebags. I also added a Pre-Amp in the saddlebag to tailor the sound.
Her system kicks *** and didn't really cost a fortune. Plus, I can trust all of the components.
I have a Reckless fairing I bought for the radio. This year they just came out with a detachable radio system that bolts up to your factory windshield (Rock Hoodz). If they would have had that last year I would have never bought the entire fairing. I have heard it and it sound damn good. http://recklessmotorcycles.com/special_month.htm
