Default Ape Project

Bout to get my 12" Monkey Bars ordered and want to make sure I am not missing anything.

Already have new clutch cable
Having brake lines made
Ordering wires extensions

Anything I am missing?

Depending on what year your bike is, a one piece upper handle bar clamp and better bushings. I'm not sure what year they went with a one piece clamp as standard. Of course you will need the proper fluid, I do believe they have changed brake fluid types through the years and you do not want to mix fluids

Since you will have to remove the exhaust, exhaust gaskets and maybe even some clamps since re-using the old ones (if you remove them from the mufflers) does not always work. Although many will surely jump in and tell you how you can re-use both. I never did and never had leaks either. Will need the right side transmission cover gasket and some trans fluid. A bunch of plastic zip ties are always nice to have also for securing the clutch cable and the wires in the fairing.

The special tool for popping the wires out of the connectors is great to have also. I did it without and made a lot of extra work, for what a 10 buck tool would have prevented.

Sorry guys, rookie mistake. 2013 Street Glide.

I already changed my clutch cable. Had an incident last year and new I was going to do the apes, so when I replaced it I went ahead and ordered the correct one.

These nylon bushings, what makes them better than stock?

Fluids are good to go.

The stock rubber bushings give to much with apes the harder poly bushings will take up the slop.

Thanks, looking at JP, they have poly ones and alloy ones with the bolts. 12$ vs 44$...Worth the extra money???

Because you'll have everything torn apart, I'd recommend swapping your TBW for the SE model...just a suggestion.

Huh, since when has anyone removed their exhaust to swap bars? Maybe I'm missing something, but never heard/saw this in the bar swap guidance and I didn't have to remove mine as everything's accessible from above (e.g. not working near exhaust).

To replace the clutch cable I had to remove the exhaust...
