Default Back rest/Sissy Bar

I am wanting to remove the back rest/case on my 98 road king and go with just a sissy bar. I contacted my Harley dealer to get a price and they told me $700 for parts alone. I am new to Harley and have only had metric bikes. I have put sissy bars on all my metrics and NEVER had to pay that much. Does this sound right?

Depends. In your photo it looks like the tour pak may be rigid mounted. If so and if you want to be able to use it as a detachable along with the sissy bar then yes it would be about $700 in parts. If you just want the docking kit, sissy bar upright and a backrest pad then you're looking at about $350-400

I probably would want to be able to switch back and forth. But would mostly use just the sissy bar. So it sounds like I'll stay as is or fork out some $$$ lol

Thanks for the quick response
