hey all , i am considering buying 07/08 Street or Road Glide , would like to know what to watch out for or what is a common problem , these seem to be pretty solid model years , any advice and or comments always appreciated
Do yourself a favor & go to a 09 or newer unless you get a killer deal on a 07-08. There's the new frame, better gearing, better tire sizes & better exhaust system to name a few. The 07s had a few more problems with bad cranks than later years, the 08s were sort of a one off transition year with a modified early frame to fit the 6 gal tank. The gear ratios on both years was the most problematic, 9.31 1st gear making for a lot a clutch slipping on takeoff & a 2.79 6th gear that's almost useless under 70 mph. All fixable problems & not that terrible, just my opinion that for the few $$ more the 09 up bikes are a better overall buy. JMHO
I have an 08. Needs 2 teeth on rear pulley(09's have it) Needs new rear shocks, they all need 'em. I did motor mods, they all need that. I did a true-track and I ride a '14 a lot and in my opinion the '14 needs a true track too. I wouldn't worry, get the best deal on a bike you like.
Get what you want, and what you can get a deal on... I'm pretty sure they never made a year or model that doesn't need something or that couldn't use improvement. Guys buy brand new bikes, and put performance upgrades before they leave the shop..
I have an 07 FLTR since new and its for sale now since I bought a 12 CVO. I loved my 07 and still do, but I had an issue with the gearing, crank, shocks. So now it has a HO 103 with welded balanced crank, 30 tooth front pulley with a HD International belt that makes 6th gear totally usable, can cruise at 75 in 6th at 2900-3000 rpms and get 43 mpg. Went with real Brembo brakes and ceramic rotors, glide pro suspension bushings and motor mounts, race tech gold valves. It is a sweet bike, just thought Id throw that out there in case you wanted a decent deal on an 07.
