for your situation a one piece suit makes sense,it'll keep ya dry warm and clean will go over just about any bottom layer and can easily fit a saddlebag when ya get where your going.
look into snow boots for waterproof boots. I have a pair of Columbia boots that I picked up for around $80 that are waterproof and insulated, they work great in cold weather and are bearable in the summer as long as it isn't too hot outside.
You can't go wrong with a heated jacket liner and some heated gloves or glove liners. you don't really need the pant liners unless it goes well into the 20's. I use the harley jacket liner and firstgear glove liners and I'm good down into the 20's. Heated gear is easier to pack on the bike then layers and will work better to keep you warm.
what ever you do, don't cheep out on anything. You will need this stuff a lot more than some of this stuff is designed to be used. Since money is an issue, it's better to spend a little more now than to buy everything twice because you wanted to save 30% by buying cheep.
if you can afford it, buy the gerbing (or Harley for a little more) waterproof heated jacket and over pant. Very expensive but in the long run it might save you money since you don't need to buy rain gear or a temp controller and it's one suit that can do everything.
For gear on a budget go to Cycle Gear. Their store brand products are very reasonably priced and have a lifetime warranty. They have heated gear as well
The right answer is: Sell them both and get a beater to drive..........save the $$ you were spending on both payments for a year and next winter you can probably pay cash for a late model Harley........will it mean a year without riding....probably but in a year you'll have a bike bought and paid for and you won't have to worry about ever making a choice again....my .02!!
I am sorry to read about your problem. heated gear and stay dry. yea like you said full face helment. one more thing, I have always found that If I thought it was going to be 6 mo. to get kinda well. It took twice that long every time. so, make longer term decisions. I wish you well.
kroozeabout.
