Thanks for all of the great feedback. I do not race at all. Although I don't have this bike yet.. (2015 FLTRXS ordering within the week) It will definitely not be stock. Most likely I will be doing the same engine work I did with my 2013 FLTRX, and I do like the sound of what I have now.. There's just that voice in my head asking..... "Do I have the right exhaust?" I am not concerned about cost so I don't need to seek out econo brands, but I do know that some of the major name brands do NOT add more HP than the lesser known brands, and I think it has already been mentioned using different words... My *** won't know the difference in a few ft/lbs of torque or HP for that matter.... It is the sound I am seeking, I don't need to show off my Dyno sheet like a trophy.
I don't have a real budget in mind and I'm not afraid of spending money for what I like... My fall back is to put a 2-1-2 with the same slip ons that I have now...
It's been my experience that the 2-2 and the 2-1 sound more aggressive. The 2-1-2 doesn't seem to have that aggressive sound, IMHO. Essentially with the 2-2 you're running one cylinder through one muffler and sorta the same with the 2-1. With a 2-1-2 setup you're running each cylinder through two mufflers which I believe cuts down on the aggressive sound, or at least the lack of hearing each exhaust pop clearly... if that makes any sense...
Again, it is just my opinion and I'm only speaking on the sound part. HP is a whole new ball of wax. I'm running the V&H dresser duals with the 4" Rineharts and absolutely love it... like previously mentioned, I'm not looking for every tenth on a time slip.
Like mike said go to a local bike night or rally and see what sounds best to you. Sound is a subjective thing each person likes there own sound. As was stated with a 2-1-2 head pipe you dont get that sound of each cyclinder poppin off in each muffler. But with a twin cam your not gonna get that potato potato sound anyways. So i went with v&h power duals cause of the theory 2-1 gets the best performance but i like the look of dauls so the cross over should create some of the performance gains of a 2-1 and still the dual exhaust
You can't beat the sound of True Duals (had them on my last bike) but I like the performance of my FM 2-1-2 and the sound is great for touring with my 4" Rineharts.
I had the Vane and Hines twin slash slipons on my 2011 street glide. Too quiet so I put one VH Dresser Duals. Loud but not good loud. Had that straight drag pipe sound. Not what I wanted pn a touring bike. I took them off yesterday and put the stock header back on.
A good sound is more important to me than power. I am either going try the VH power duals or a gutted stock headpipe. Anyone know if there is a big difference in sound/power from the two?

I too have the power duals (2-1-2) with the high output mufflers, and love the sound. Can listen to the radio while doing 70 down the interstate but it will bark really loud when called upon to make tracks. Also got the low end torque I lost with true duals.
2-1-2 will retain the low end torque you will lose with so called TD's and no amount of tuning will give it back
Check out Fuel moto 2-1-2 ceramic coated life time warty no excuses.
Why not go with a 2-1 , aggressive sound ,great torque etc..... ?
I'm guessing they haven't rode a bike with a 2-n-1 on it. A friend of mine had pretty much identical set up that I had except he had a Dragos 2-n-1, his tq came in 500 rpms sooner than mine and the low end pull was awesome, again only difference was I had x pipe 2-1-2 with RC mufflers. I also loved the sound of his pipe, it was loud and had a deep tone but on the bike it didn't seem loud at all, actually quieter. So I purchased a Rush Wrath 2-n-1 with the 2.5" baffle which is the same pipe he had except for the end cap and I'll never go back to a 2-1-2 exhaust but I was a hard sell also. Big difference in my dyno sheet comparing the two exhaust as well as butt dyno.
