I've sort of felt that way as well, but I've seen similar numbers built by indy shops using Fuel Moto parts.

I'm surprised! I thought their "happy meal" kits would make every bike a monkster....

Using the HD stuff is all good. But you are limited IMO. I think if (all else being the same) you can get better performance out of some of the aftermarket cams. Plus you have more choices. HD cams are very limited. So my choice would be to go with aftermarket over the HD stuff.

there are many Forum Members who are happy with Fuel Moto. There are also other vendors. and HD- who has performance packages listed in the catalog.

BUT- as the sign at the hod rod shop said:

How Fast

How Long

How Much

You pick 2

That means power x reliability x cost.

reliability will be a concern...once the motor is beefed then the process of finding the next weakest link starts...what'll blow first?

the clutch?

the belt?

maybe the tranny or primary bearings?

the cush drive?

the swingarm mounts?

so it's up to the owner what they want.

I leave my Harleys at stage 1

for the cost to make a Harley fast...real fast and turn and stop is about the cost of a new Ducati ( on top of the cost of the Harley).

so I have other bikes which were made to run, stop and turn

mkguitar, that ranks as one of the best forum posts ever!

Personally, I'm going with Stage Zero.

I've got a VMax for straight-line thrills where every part is engineered to hold up to countless 1/4 mile times in the high 10s.

My Road King is a cruiser.

Interesting post, however do you have any specific examples?

I know the dealer your talking about.
And yes, what they "can" do for you is valid.

It will all come down to how much money you want to spend and how much power you want to make.

They have a Dyno and a very capable technician that knows what hes doing.

I bought their kit and did the install myself, dynoed by an independent shop.

My numbers were as good as some of FM's good numbers. Must be a happy Dyno also.

Dynos all read differently. If you are doing work, get a "before" run done then compare it after the work is done. (On the same dyno of course)
