Default Stop Lights

Has anyone stopped at a red light only to sit and wait and wait for the light to change, but it doesn't. I know some of the lights are activated when a vehicle crosses or gets near some wiring in the road that picks up a signal, and I have heard that our bikes don't have enough mass to trip it. I've tried magnets and they don't seem to work. What have you tried that works?

Sometimes I have to go further up and pull a u turn or wait for a car to come. Sometimes rocking back and forth over the sensors in the road (you can tell by looking at the ground. You can see the cutouts of the sensored area). That's all I've got.

Wait for one cycle of the lights, if it doesn't change, treat it like a four way stop!

Yep, that's the new law here in Washington state.

About the only thing I do is stop close to the strip so my kickstand will sit on the strip. Sometimes it works some times it doesn't.
We have red lights that I avoid because of them being so slow. There's one I go around every time. The turn light will not change for bikes.

Yep, had this happen a couple weeks ago....when it was still warm enough to ride here in NC.

A particular kind of magnet is supposed to work. http://www.wikihow.com/Trigger-Green-Traffic-Lights

I have a 1/2" neodymium magnet stuck to the oil filter to remover stray ferrous material. It also seems to work on faulty stoplight sensors.

If this is your regular route, report it to the town road department. It's a safety issue that should be addressed. It's just a matter of turning a screw in the light switching cabinet.
