How much do you know about the history of the Bike, and what the previous owner has
done to the Bike ? ? A down load may be needed to help the Bike run right with a tuner,
and a fuel map. The more miles on the Bike the more you should check the cam followers,
25K miles or more they need to be checked.

I'm going to buy a mapping license and have the local Indy change the fuel settings. 2nd issue that I found is the stereo would work fine and then cut out occasionally. I haven't figured that one out yet. It seemed like there was a loose connection because it's intermittent and comes right back on. The endless work of trying to make the bike right.

What color are the pipes? Blue = Rich, Gold = Lean

Popping in the air cleaner or exhaust pipes? Air cleaner usually indicates lean, exhaust usually indicates rich

Hard to believe the guy was riding it like this, but, if a pesky chipmunk was to make a nest in the aircleaner it could restrict air, turn your pipes blue, and make it pop in the exhaust as the plugs foul

Also if the stereo loses a ground, it will ground through the tree neck bearings, and grease can sometimes break the circuit. My '03 has a redundant ground from the frame into the fairing landed on the radio chassis

i bought an 04 ultra a few years ago, so far at 39k my cam shoes look new, had the dealer check before I get it out of storage, my only issues so far were the shift linkage coming apart and the throttle wire broke at the grip. Had to use wire to keep the linkage together & vise grips to operate the throttle wire.

Don't know a lot about the bike except what the dealership told me and checking it myself. I'm the second owner and the engine is stock. A set of true duals have been added but there has not been any other modifications besides highway pegs and chrome. The bike had 14000 when I bought it and now has around 14900 after riding it for a couple days.

I've actually had it pop both in the air cleaner and exhaust but mainly the air cleaner. If you get on it in second gear you get a pop almost every time (I get a lot of popping when chopping the throttle). The pipes also get super hot even after a short ride. I haven't checked the pipes or air cleaner. The dealership just delivered it this last Friday. They had it in their shop for a week supposedly getting it ready to deliver. I'll check the pipes, plugs and air cleaner tomorrow. The pipes are turning a gold color close to the middle of the pipe (near the transition). (With previous bikes if it was running lean or hot would turn gold and blue near the exhaust port) The guy might have decided to trade it in because of the lean issue or it might have been repo'd but honestly I don't know. I will say though I am sold now on a touring bikes from just riding it for a few days, my wife is in love with it as well because of the seat and comfortable ride. She's probably not going to like it as much when I get another seat and quick detach the tour pak. I plan on setting it up more like a street glide for normal riding and then have the ability of putting the tour pak back on for those long distance rides. I have a few bugs to work out first such as the lean issue.

Thanks for the info on the stereo and I'm almost positive that it is grounding out near the neck. Seems to cut out and back on when the batwing has movement. If its sitting and not riding it doesn't cut out at all.

I fished a ground wire along side the bundle thru the fairing and wire tied it to the bundle. Black wire, black bundle, black ties, and you can't see it.

Popping in air cleaner and gold pipes is lean. Is it possible the dealer or the previous owner removed a tuner? I would put a Power Commander 5 and download a free tune from their website. Maybe $400 and should solve the cold natured issues from lean AFR
