I read something about oil potentially leaking out into the AC in another thread - a possible by-product of a Stage 1 upgrade. But I've looked around DK's web site and see lots of products but no comments directly on that issue. What am I look for? Is it just the addition of a breather?
Look at his Premium discrete & Flexible Breather System for all the Outlaw Hi Flow Air Cleaners.
My experience with the big sucker was not good.It would load up with oil and sprinkle tiny droplets all over my rear heat shield.I switched to a DK 587 and discrete breather kit problem solved.
So if my bike isn't current blowing any oil back into the air cleaner, can I assume that (good) behavior will continue with a different air cleaner? The DK system looks great, but it's complex and adds cost. I'm thinking it's a good solution for a problem that my bike doesn't currently have. So if a different AC wouldn't create an oil problem where one doesn't currently exist, I should be able to go with SE, Ness or S&S, right?
(BTW, I just saw S&S is only $114 at Eastern Performance, too. Gotta like that!)
It's not an issue of blowing oil back into the air cleaner, it is more about hot oily air being sucked into the intake.
Ok, got it. But if I don't have that issue now, will it be likely that I cause it with an AC change? Is the oil blow a function of the AC, or is it the engine (and the AC is the just lucky recipient of the blow back)?

Yes the air cleaner is the place where your blow by is going. As said before look into the dk discreet breather or I've seen others construct there own systems. Also stated before try 3 1/2 quarts instead of 4 quarts of oil. I've noticed with 3 1/2 quarts that I see less oil on the air filter. Still some but not as much as if I were to run 4 quarts.
If you're going to stay with the stock breather system (ie blowing it down the intake) I'd go with the the S.E. it does a neater job of it than the Ness.I ran one of those on my Dyna for years never lost a drop.
