BL, How many gallons did you use when ya filled up?
I use my trip meter and refill around 160 and takes between 4 and 4.5 gallons. My fuel gauge can be tricky also, I do not trust it. Avg. since I purchased has been between 40 and 42.
Got 40 out of it Sat. after a 350 mile hwy ride but the winds were very strong and felt like I had to lean into the cross wind just to keep it straight.

Blmoore, some of the HD fuel gages are not accurite. It's best to keep note of mileage and the amount of fuel at fill up.

i rode 170 miles yesterday. total fuel consumption was almost exactly 4 gallons.... and that was VERY fluid, mild riding at 65mph/hwy

My fuel light comes on at appx the same mileage as well. I now have a lil over800 miles on my new Ultra and I have appx 150 miles since the dealer installed my new Stage II 103" kit. My first tank fill since the 103" kit was appx 33 MPG and that was all two up riding. And while its not great, I figure if I would ease outta the throttle a bit it would get a lil better and if I were also running solo it would help. If this breakin goes like it did on my new 06 Dyna I hope to be in the 42-44mpg range after I get appx 2-3K miles on it.

I log 135 miles a day 4 days a week and on my weekends around 75-100 per day since I live in a rural area everything is FAR for me. So mpg's are sort of important to me at $3.50/gal here in San Diego.

I've noticed that my '05 E-G (95"/10.25:1/211cam/SEII true duals/K&N) gives me 33-35 mpg if I run it 75-80 mph (not riding it hard, just steady at those speeds). Lately I've backed my speed down (a one hour freeway commutefrom the mtns at 4200' down to sea level then back again at the end of the day) to about 65-70 mph and it's giving me 37-39 and even got a couple 40's and a 41 mpg. A dramatic difference for 10 mph in average speed!

Now I did just installa PCIII but have not yet had it dyno'd. I plan to do this within a month if I can as I'd like to get the bike dialed in for ideal performance and mileage (also runs cooler in summer if a/f ratio is correct I'm now learning). I'm easy on the throttle 90% of the time but I'm suremy long uphill mountain grades to get home are a factor not in my favor as far as mpg's are concerned.

QUESTION: Assuming I dont turn into a hot-rodder, am I likely to improve mpg's (or get worse?? Does that ever happen?) with a dyno tune or am Imostly just going to end up with a cooler running motor with a flatter torque/hp curve?

One important factoid in this discussion is that the real capacity of the FLH tank is 5.4 gal, not 5.0 as shown in the official specs. To find out, I drained all the gas of my old RK and replaced it quart by quart. Many times I filled that bike up and it took more than 5.0 gal.

The first 120 miles on my newFLHTC used 3.8 gallons - 31.5 mpg. I'm fixing to get gas again today and I expect the mileage to be a little better.

I spent some time on the bike yesterday - started the trip with 700 miles on it, back home at 940. Light came on at 145 miles.

Someone mentioned in another thread that if you stand the bike upright before you switch on, the light and gauge are more reliable. I've tried it a few times and think it's true, but now I just use the trip meter to figure out if I'm getting low. I'm too lazy to stand the bike up.FWIW, my 2007 Super Glide gets the light around 130 or so. If I fill up when the light comes on it takes 3.<small number> gallons -- so it's pretty premature.

Thanks for all the responses!

I rode again today and did 127 miles. The gauge read a little under 1/2 and I put 2.8 gallons in. If my gozintas are right, that works out to a little over 45 mpg.

I can live with that!

The last tank was with the new Rineharts and I may have been playing a little too much
