Excuse me if this has been discussed but Im wondering if anyone else has put some thought to retrofitting the Boom 6.5 infotainment stereo/GPS into a 2012 or older bike?
I've seen these on ebay so they can be had.. but dont know whats all involved.. Im guessing:
Inner fairing
several cables
controls from 2014 or 2015 bike.
And I suppose youd need all gauges as well. Possible all sensors as well..
so quite a daunting project but since that is the primary reason I want a 2014 or 15 bike Im wonding if I could still save money by buying a used bike and installed it myself.
Anyway.. its up for discussion in case anyone wants to chime in.
Having a 14 with the 6.5 boom box and waiting to replace it I can tell you it's not all that. Retrofitting wouldn't be easy as it uses can bus system from the rushmores, if you really want the bigger display and navigation there are other alternatives with quality aftermarket radios or even going to FBI and getting thier ipad fairing. Metra as well as hawg wired and biketronics sell interfaces so you can still use the hand controls same as stock HK radio.
