Default Forbidden Risers

It all started with a blown transmission. My bike was down and I was eager to make some changes to my bike. I had spent the last couple year piling up the miles on my bike but other than a set of apes I had not really done anything custom to the bike. When I started looking at bars the first thing I knew was I had to have either tbars or risers. My first option was going to be Tbars, but around my area I’d seen plenty of baggers running tbars and decided the rarer option was to go with risers. I contacted Jimmy over at Forbidden Motorsports and he hooked me up with a 12’’ risers and a set of mx bars. First thing we realized was that to mount the riser which has a large diameter we were going to have to modify my ignition cover. Using a drimmel we routed out a slot for the risers to rest in and mount without putting stress on the plastic of the fairing. The next issue was what to do with the stereo as the bars run right through the opening for the deck. I didn’t want to get rid of my deck as I had a lot of money into my stereo and running it just off an IPod would have been the easy way out. Solution? I went to a stereo shop and purchased the under dash mounting case for a deck. This case is for older model cars that either came with too small a place for a standard deck or no radio at all. Using the ol’ drimmel again we removed the top of the case and the rear. We then pop riveted the case to my inner fairing brackets but recessed about 3-4 inches to make just enough room for the risers. Then we mounted the deck to the case. Next was the fun part, wiring the risers. Let me be clear….THIS SUCKED! Baggers have way too many wires in the bars to fit in these risers easily but by staggering the leads we were able to keep the wires thin enough to snake them through. After wiring the risers and bars we noticed one thing we forgot about, the gauges cannot be seen through the bars at all. While this is not a huge problem as I rarely look at my gauges anyway, we decide to do some major motor work along with the tranny rebuild so I was going to need my tach to keep the RPMs down as I broke in a new motor. The Solution? I wanted to copy the cockpit look of a Dyna. So Larry Tipton from JLK in San Bruno had a bracket fabricated that allowed us to mount a Dyna Dual gauge bracket to the top of the risers. I drilled a small hole in the center between the two gauges hole and ran the wiring right through the fairing. It worked perfect because of the way the gauges sit you can’t see the wires. Now the next question was what to do with the two big holes in my fairing. Solution? MORE SPEAKERS! I already had 4 6x9s in my bags in 2 6.5s in my fairing so I decided why that more was better. I found a pair of 3.5” kickers that just so happen to fit perfect inside the fairing. Using some epoxy and a fabricated support bracket I mounted the speakers where my gauges used to be. Now, after several months of rebuilding the transmission and engine I have what I think is a pretty rare and cool set up on my Glide. Tell me what you guys think…..

Might just be our Cali style, but I like it! Really like the bar set up to, something I want to do to my FLHX one day.

Storm Troopers are awesome. The bike is different to say the leaste. Not my style. However, I do like bikes that avoid the norm, trends, or what everyone thinks is cool this month.

LOL, bro you can't hurt my feelings its the internet. White is not everyone's style but it sets my bike apart from the 15 million all black bikes out there. I've painted the bike 3 times in 5 years and is the first color that I think ill stay with for awhile and ride by storm trooper lol.

90% of the people in my area love the bike how it looks now and I am good with the criticism helps me develop ideas for the next incarnation of the bike so it all good bro!

It really is a Cali thing! Bay Area to LA flashy and/or different is the way to go. Way too many riders out here to do the same thing.

The bars are really what the Thread is all about. Im good with any comments about the bike itself, but the bars and gauge set up are what I really wanted to hear about.

TBW wiring would be a b**ch to say the least.
