I know many people hate the pinstriping on the Specials, but I kind of like it. Also, I'd go to an experienced pinstriper and let him do his thing. They're experts and know what looks good.
I'd find a striping expert first, then talk through what is possible. Having looked through the catalogue of past work done my one of them, they won't be short of ideas!
I also think you should talk to a pinstriper (if you are ready to buy) - good ones will work with you to see what you like and sketch out a few ideas before you commit to paint.
Do you want the Von Dutch style (Old School) or just some regular line striping? Ask around your local shops on where to go and go talk with them. Also if you just want plain stripping you can get some striping tape and lay it out yourself to get an idea what it might look like. Can get the tape in many colors at most paint supply places or auto parts stores.
Find a good pinstripper in your area, check out their work (they will have books and books and books full of their work), tell them what you're thinking, agree on a price, and then turn him or her loose.
I've used three different pinstripers over the years .. the first one is nationally known, The Scarecrow, he does excellent work but because he does (my opinion) so many bikes each job looks the same after a while. The second, and probably did the best work was a high school art teacher out of Whitehall WI. The third, and the one who did the pinstriping on my Limited, is Brushboy out of Darboy WI .. his work is very good as well.
The pix, black cherry bike, show a little of the work by the teacher from Whitehall. The other pix, the blue Limited, show a little of the work by Brushboy. I didn't post any pix of Scarecrow's work...he has a website and more than enough pictures. Brushboy has a website as well.

I like pin stripping and there is a local guy that is very good. Thing is, with clear coat paint I'm hesitant to just lay the stripes on top of the clear. Comments?
