Glad to see you made it out well enough to write about it.
Enjoy the next ride.

I have been hearing a radio ad on sirius about Tommy Johns underwear and curious if they are all they claim to be. How about trying them and let us know what you think?

Seriously, glad you are okay. Most have been there done that. I have usually gone for acceleration but have still been ran into the median and lastly forced into a guardrail that totaled my bike. ANY time I am passing a tractor trailer truck I do so pronto, especially when they are hauling as you described. Hate loose/uncovered stuff.

Glad you're okay and this is a lesson for new riders... braking is not always the right answer.

It is moments like the OP wrote about that we can use to make us better riders.

I'm glad you made through, after a day of reflection you are a better rider now.
Plus side is your more aware and will be safer.
The bikes brakes done what they should, you didn't skid out.
Your quick reactions may have saved you from serious injury. There's no negatives we all learn from theses things, put on you new shorts and your riding face and get back out there

Having a close encounter with your own mortality causes one to think about the risk vs enjoyment factor of motorcycling doesn't it.

I too have had one of these close calls with a turn in the road. In my case, I was simply going too fast into a turn that tightened up right at the apex and I had to bail out. I did drop the bike and the net result was a couple of broken ribs. This experience also made me think about the safety of a hobby I really love. The best thing for me was that I had to get back on the bike to get back home (was in NC and I live in TX).

I think the most profound lesson I learned can be summarized with this statement "As far as it depends on me, that will never happen again". So, I ride differently as a result of my experience. I have learned from my mistake and as far as it depends on me, I won't make that same one again.

Glad you are ok and blessings that you are able to ride another day.
