I ordered a set of MGS slip on mufflers Monday and they were delivered today. I decided to go ahead and install them after work this evening. Great looking slip on. I do have an issue though. The right side has a clearance issue with the rear axle nut and e clip. Mounted and everything tightened there's only about 1/8" clearance. I called MGS and they suggested maybe trying to add spacers or shims to move rear of muffler down if it hits. Not sure I want to go that route. Any suggestions or has anyone else had same issue? I plan to keep them because I like the look and sound. I thought of maybe dimpling them like the stock mufflers. I know this would void any warranty...but only idea I can come up with.
Are they dimpled at all right now? Seems strange that they wouldn't have some dimple on a 4" muffler. I know my 4" Rineharts are dimpled to fit correctly.
No dimples at all. I looked at my friends 4" Rineharts while I was installing these and seen the dimples on his bike. How I came up with the idea. My stock take offs also had dimples.
I had to shim my MGS true duals for the same reason. 4" cans aren't dimpled. Make sure you have clearance when the rear wheel is off the ground. Don't want that right-side axle nut contacting the muffler when shocks are at full extension. Think I used 3-4 washers & longer bolts. Technically only had to shim the right side on mine, but did the same on the left to make 'em even.
Put the bike on a lift and let the rear tire hang. Try to slip a piece of paper in between the pipe and axle nut. If not, get the thinest washers you can find and shim the muffler bracket just enough to get that piece of paper in there. I had to do the same with my set up. You only need that paper width clearance because with the suspension will not drop down any further then it is with the rear tire hanging down.

Same here,(Rinehart 4's) dimpled on both sides of the slip-ons.
I would send em back and would pass on the spacers/shims.
That is a manufacturing issue that I am sure they are aware of.
Hey jay,
Just installed mine this am. They did contact the axle not with rear tire raised, but just barely. Added 2 shims under rear bracket, unnoticeable .
They look and sound great.
