I was a Mobil lubricant distributor for a little over 10 years, and during that time I became a huge believer in synthetics --especially Mobil 1. But today when shopping for motor oil, I found the shelf at our local Mobil station to have only 3 qts. of Mobil 1 V-Twin for $11.99/qt. and all sorts of Amsoil 20W50 synthetic MC oil for $7.99/qt. With all the good things I've read about Amsoil lately (not to mention that I live in the state in which it is manufactured) and the price, I decided to take the plunge. I also changed my transmission lube to the Amsoil 20w50 syn(it had the MOCO standard issue in it). After I finished the job, I took the bike out for a ride and I swear it shifts a little quieter. I could be nuts I suppose (my wife always says so), but I have a hunch I'm going to be happy with the switch.
I to switched from Mobil 1 to Amsoil and am really pleased that I did and wondered why I didn't do it sooner...The Amsoil cut down a tremendous amount of heat that was generated at the rear cylinder along with the crossover pipes...

Paul....I was wondering about the engine heat issue. I have a 400 mile ride to do Thursday, so I'm hoping to see what its like.
Ihave used Syn3 since 5000 miles (55,000 now) and after reading all the hype on this forum, I decided to switch to Mobil 1 V-Twin Synthetic oil. I am not impressed! I actually have more valve train noise that before, and there is no reduction in heat so far. I was even hoping fora small increase in gas mileage but nothing happens. In my humble opinion, except for price, Syn3 and Mobil 1 are near equals.[]
I had my bike switched over to Amsoil at the 1,000 mile service. I run Amsoil Supershift trans in the Primary, Amsoil 20w50 in the engine, and Amsoil 75w-90 in the transmission. Love it so far.

Rob,
Why not just run the Amsoil Syn 20W50 in the trans? They claim its good for all three holes.
I run amsoil 20w50 in the crankcase and the primary ... and Severe Gear in the transmission. Great combination although the Severe Gear is a little overkill but what the heck we bought a case which will last for a few hundred thousand miles. LOL
Congrats on leavin the dark side... and coming to the amsoil side! You will be happy with it.
I am about to do my 5k. Am I righ to asume I can use Amsoil 20w50 for the motor, trans and primary? Or is there a better combonation? Sorry to turn this inot an oil thread, but I am curious, and want th best results. Also, is there anything else major I need to do? I just have apes but on my bike and he had to do the clutch cable and add the brake lines and throttle cables. Since he added the clutch cable, is that the same as adjusting the clutch?
i have used amsoil 20w50 in all three holes since i have owned my bike. I love it. Change the crankcase oil every 4000-5000 miles and the others according to book recommendations.
