Default 2007 Ultra Speedometer

I am going to buy and trike (I am disabled) a 2007 Ultra Classic. This involves a choice of new custom wheels. The Ultra comes with 16" wheels. If I increase or decrease the wheel size will it mess up the speedometer? Where does the Ultra get its speedometer input? Will it mess with the cruise control? Thank you.

I think yes with the speedo cause its sensor is in trany I believe. but it mite actually be more acurite at some speeds CC thow finds a base line when you do the "lash initialization" that may be ok.

blacklion213, glad you see fit to ride. great knowing that even with a disability, you wont let it hold you back. good for you. And the unltra is sweet. If I could afford it, I would buy one. And I think those trike kits would be a blast to ride. Get us some pics, when you get done, and welcome to the forum. But beware, this place is more addicting than crack. Well, I don't know that for sure, being 350lbs, I have never tried the stuff, but I wonder if that would help me drop some wright...Just kidding folks,I don't mean to offend... But I am one fat b@st@ard

I could be wrong but I don't think it matters where the speedo input comes from. The system takes into account things like wheel diamter and if you change that, you're going to change the accuracy of the speedometer. There may be some way to compensate for that but I'm not familiar with what it might be.

I don't think changing wheel size will effect the cruise control per say. What it might do is effect the speed range that the cruise control will operate in. The manual says, if I'm not mistaken, that the cruise control will only function between about 30 mph and 85 mph. If you change the wheel diameters on the bike, you'll probably shift those numbers up or down a little but the system should function normally otherwise.

Best of luck,
Steve R.

PS: Having said all that, if you're not changing the diameter (still using 16 inchers) of the wheels, but only changing the width of the tire, then you shouldn't have any issues with speedometer error (beyond what it comes with from the factory! ) or the cruise control!
