Hi all, am a newby. just purchased an 08' Road King this last month. Love it!
Question? going to put new rubber on it. Any recommendations?
(Like to do long rides and want a tire thats good in rain also)
thanks,
Tons of threads on the many tyres available. All the major brands make suitable ones for your bike and each has their champions. The more replies you get the more options you will find! I prefer Avons, so there - I've said my piece! I live in the UK and if your weather is anything like ours they should suit you fine.
Tires are like oil. Everyone has something they like, with a hundred reasons why their choice is the best one. I'm very happy with my Michelin Commander II's.
My research led me to either the Dunlop American Elite or a Michelin Commander. I pick the Elite since it was recommended by the installer and it is a dual compound tire. If I don't get a little better mileage out of it than the stock Dunlop I may give the Commander a try.
After reading tons of reviews on every tire I could find I ended up with Michelin Power Commander II on my 01 Road King..so far I love them..the reviews say they are supposed to last a long time and we're designed for touring bikes..haven't put a lot of miles on yet so can't tell you about longevity yet but ride and handle very well
As already stated you will get tons of opinions but at the end of the day it's up to you and trial and error..it's what feels good to you..do a lot of research and try to choose something you are comfortable with
I like the Dunlop elite both front and rear..on the front is as good as any as I have tried but on the back is where they really shine, I get around 13k miles before I need to replace them (maybe could get another 1k but I don't like to push it) ...the metzler 888 are a really great handling tire, but I gave up on them because I only got about 8k out of the back tire before I needed to replace them..I have used continential tires in the past and don't recommend them for anything but dry roads, while they do the job, they don't compare to either the dunlops or metzlers..
