My buddy just bought a 2015 SGS a few weeks ago to the tune of around 28k OTD with pipes and everything. It's a very nice bike and handles great with lots of power but I don't think it's much better then my 09 SG with a few upgrades. I bought mine last fall for 15k in mint condition and with all the upgrades done I already wanted the way I wanted them so to me it wouldn't be worth the extra money for a new one but they're nice bikes no doubt.
Could be the time of year, but that almost $26k price seems high. I got my 2014 SGS last July for 6 year old Electra Glide Classic plus $13.8k. Book trade in on the Classic was $10,000. I also got a $500 gift card from the dealer so the effective price was $13.3k plus the $10k for a total of $23.3k.
Don't know what your sales tax is but in Denver where I got mine the tax is almost 8%.

I'd check a few more dealers and see if
The trade is hurting the deal. While they're giving me what I could sell it for outright, there is no discount on the SGS.
Sort of. I am very smart with my money and prefer to spend wisely. I don't owe anyone a dime at 35. House paid for. Bike paid for. Car paid for. I don't just buy things to have them.
But god f'n dammit, I'd love a new Harley!
congrats.....not many folks can say that at your young tender age. seems to me you have a few options.....save your money and pay cash for one....put one on payments or a third put it on payments and pay it off early or just walk away and drool every time you see one.....
reward yourself for your hard work and financial frugality
I have a 2007 flhtc, and i love it! last march i rented a 2015 limited at daytona, 600 miles in 1.5 days. They ride nice, stereo is nice, GPS sucks (i use my phone with tomtom or google and no comparison, harley gps was like a step back in time in gps world). With my thunderheader, tuner and big breather i thought my bike had more snap than a choked up 103 from factory. Personally if i was blown away i would of traded up, it was nice, but not worth $28k in my eyes, to each their own
I understand the basic differences. I currently have an 03 King with ohlins shocks and bagger brace. I have ridden the 09-13's a total of prob 200 miles in my life and test drove a new RG. So, little to compare to, but I like the way my 03 rides, but have little to compare it to. It does leave some to be desired tho even with my upgrades. I like to ride fairly aggressively.
Anyway, I can live without all the "comfort items." I like to tour and ride hard in the twisties. The thought of 25-30K on a new touring rig makes me wince when I can pick up a clean 09-13 for considerably less. At the end of the day, is the ride really that much better between the 09's and rushmores? I like the idea of bigger forks, but does this really equate in day to day riding?
The Rushmore front end is "all there", for a factory HD, but installing the HD Premium Cartridges in the '09 SERG are close enough,(to me just as good) that I won't spend the $ on a newer bike. If you go with a '09-'13 bike and upgrade to the HD Premium stuff, I believe you will be happy. Just get one (09-13) with anti-lock brakes...
Love my '13 Roadglide Ultra. Not interested in trading it. I think the new bikes are great but I'll wait until I almost hit 100K on this one. Ask me again in 3 or 4 years. My neighbor has a '15 RGS. It's beautiful and he loves it. If money was a concern, I'd pick up a '09-'13. I'd probably go with an ultra. You might find one that has been accessorized nicely for a good price. Even on a '15 you will probably do pipes, A/C, windshield, seat, and bars at some point. So figure on spending 1500-2500 more than purchase price.
