Default Need Some Help

Alright, here's the deal. As I posted a few days ago, my buddy's 2004 Road King started skipping on the way home from a ride last weekend. Codes showed no combustion front and rear cylinder.

I suspected pinholes in the fuel line inside the fuel tank but he told me he had that problem in Daytona a couple of years ago. Rossmeyer went into the tank, replaced the fuel line, and I have to assume they replaced the filter at the same time. $500 repair anyway.

Now I'm down to the coil. (The plugs were changed a couple of days ago). Everything I found on Internet, HD Forums, & Youtube searches showed A 2 wire plug or talked about Primary and secondary tests.

Well what I found was a 4 wire plug. I did find that on the primary side I was looking for .5 to .7 ohms, which I was able to find (.4 ohms) on the coil pins 1 & 4.

On the secondary test, I was looking for 5,500 to 7,500 ohms. I found 3.0K ohms between coil pin 2 and the plug wire tower holes ( It varied approx. 100 ohms between the two plug wire tower holes).

My question to you is: AM I PROBING THE CORRECT PINS ON THE COIL? These were the only pins I could get a reading on and other than the 3,000 ohms, were in the ballpark.

Do I have a bad coil? I don't want to start throwing money at parts until the skipping stops. Any help (at or below a 3rd grade level) is appreciated.

Don't know if this helps: from the 2015 electrical Diagnostic Manual.

Thanks for the help. Any chance of getting a photo of the diagnostic tips under that photo?

I am not sure about the coil, but I would check for obvious issues first, no combustion In the cylinders probably could be from bad spark wires, I have seen where they go bad up inside where they connect to the plugs and coil ends, give them a good look see and ohm them...also check the wires to the injectors they sometimes break at the plug from the vibration (quite common issue)..in the HD repair manual it tells exactly how to check the coil, I would also check the plug to the spark controller, remove the plug and check the connection "pins" (they are not really pins, blades of assort) they are known to fret and cause issues, you have to check them really close to see the issue....also the crank position sensor going bad can cause your issue..

Because it threw codes on both cylinders at the same time when the bike started skipping & running rough, I am starting with things common to both cylinders, such as fuel supply and spark. I figure it would be highly unlikely both plug wires or fuel injectors to quit at exactly the same time. I haven't looked at the crank position sensor because it has it's own diagnostic code when it goes bad.

If you know where in the service manual it shows how to check a coil, I would appreciate that info. I see how to replace a coil and also the acceptable ohm ranges but nothing on how to check one.

Where is the spark controller on a 2004 Road King?

The Diagnostic tips were to check connectors for corrosion or backed out terminals.

Since I haven't read your original post, have you definately verified a loss of spark and not a fuel problem? The reason for saying this is the loss of both cylinders seems like a fuel problem.I have seen where the tank fuel line disconnect causes this problem and by just disconnecting it and reattaching it lets the fuel flow.

I have tried that but it didn't help. Since it will start and run, I know it does have some spark but have no way of knowing if it has enough spark?

I would like to test the crank position sensor. Does anyone know the procedure for this?
