Bigger engine, more heat ... you are correct. You'll get that "potatopotato patato lope" sound after your change out the pipes, I did. I went with the Rush 2.5 slip-ons and they sound great. Some claim they are too loud but I finally got to listen to them the other day when the dealer was test riding my bike and to me, they are perfect!
Mine kind of makes the potato sound now since I've upgraded my pipes and muffs. I'm very pleased with my upgraded exhaust... the idle sounds great and driving around in low rpm really makes me smile!
I think it's the pipes as well. My 07 Bob never really had that sound till I changed the pipes. I especially notice it after it warms up.
Exactly... the bike needs to warm up first to have the good idle sound. Mine sounds more like a horse gallop at idle... it is hard to explain but dang it does sound good. I think mine is idleing around 900rpm.
It's attributed to the Fuel Injection, Lean (EPA) Condition, Stifled air cleaner, and the Chicken **** Cams installed... So, new pipes, fuel management, and let it breathe.. Oh.. Give her some lift too...
I feel the 96" is a hot rod waiting to be unleashed, having the heads worked (flow) and a good set of pipes, Duals 2 1/2" (to mimic the volume of the crossover and left side muffler) for scavenging.. Fuel Management (DTT SYSTEM), And Open Element Full Flow Air Cleaner, and some better lift cams... Then you have a Thumper...!
