Default Ipod location

Hello all..
I have an 09 Ultra...... I am installing an HDPD Plus (Ipod interface), just curious where most find it better or convenient to place the Ipod. In a saddlebag? or in the lower front fairing?

Thanks,
Jet

I put mine in the saddlebag because I take the lowers off when the weather gets warmer.

I use the saddlebag cord and run the cord under the saddle and into the right side speaker housing. Then I drilled a 1/2 hole into the tourpak. Now my iPod sits safely in the tourpak. I little more install work, but I don't have to move the cable every time I remove the saddlebag.

Be Safe JIM

Installed it on my 08 FLHTC and ran the cord under the tank and seat into the tourpak. My tour pak is not detachable so better place for me.

You need to buy the saddlebag kit to get the extension cord if I remember right.

I am not sure if the Harley module comes with the extended iPod cable. I have the Iron Cross module and used this cable to extended it.

I then cut a little relief on the top of the inner fairing for the cable to come up through between the inner fairing and windshield. After that I cut a little slit in the back of the windshield bag and ran the cable in there.

The cable that comes with the module is long enough to get out of the fairing.... to run it to the bags or tourpak, the extension is necessary which comes with the saddlebag kit.

The extension cable, by itself, is part # 72648-11. The extension connects to the module, then the cable that came with the IPOD module connects to the end of the extension. Buying just the cable saves a few $ from buying the saddle bag kit if not putting in saddle bag.

I Place mine behind the right side cover where the alarm module would go. I do not have an alarm so that was prime real estate

I installed my iPod Nano (16 GB) right on top of the radio in the front fairing with Velcro. I have lots of music, albums, playlists already installed on the Nano and I'm not one that updates my music frequently. Whenever I have the outer fairing off, I'll update my music and playlists. If I really need to update my music, it's only (7) screws and a few minutes and I have the outer fairing removed from the bike. I didn't want to deal with any extension cables, possibilities of connectors breaking, drilling holes in a tour-pak or saddle bag, etc. Plus, keeping the iPod under the fairing is probably more secure than keeping it in a saddle bag.
