used stock, then fastaire, then LRS, now Wind Vest. This seems to be the best so far. Others (other than stock) weren't bad, just think this one's a little more effective. any of the 3 are probably good options.
LRS are great shields -- they really work, I have one on my 2000 and I did buy one for my 09 which was designed for 2 up reading -- my wife noticed the difference immediately --
I'm 6' tall and used the 10 inch height
sold that bike and have not bought one for the 14 yet.
I have an 9" Freedom Shield. Great product, thicker than others, and they let you take it for a test drive. They wrap it in plastic and you can mount it and drive it around to see if it works for you. If not, return it. If it does work, remove the plastic and enjoy the ride!
Are you riding with our without a helmet? If with a helmet, what kind (half, 3/4, full). This does make a difference on the RK.
I am 5'7" and the stock shield was right in my line of sight, could not stand it. I ride with a full face helmet, and there was zero buffeting just the distorted view.
Bought a 16" LRS and it looked really good on the bike, took a quick spin and it worked great. Went on a road trip and experienced the same effect you did with a short shield. On my quick test run, I did not wear the helmet. The helmet made a huge difference.
Bought the 18" LRS and it works good with the helmet. Not as effective as the stock shield that blocked almost all the wind, but it was out of my sight and did not cause bufffeting.
I went too big with one of Clearviews on a metric. I had to look through it and it was their wide one. It felt like I was riding with a sheet of plywood up front. And it had the recurve at the top, so it held any kind of moisture which was right in the line of sight. I found getting the regular HD width and a 21" for me is perfect. The 22" was to tall the 20" (stock) was to short. In the end its just trial and error till you find what works.
2 days ago I bought a "7" HD Windsplitter windshield for my 2009 Electra Glide, well yesterday I took my bike for a 200 mile ride. WOW a difference I was able to drive between 80-90 MPH no wind buffing, front end was a lot more stable AWESOME best windshield ever was an,e to pass 18 wheelers without and buffing.
But I also traded my bike in yesterday for a RoadGlide so now my new Windsplitter is on the market, asking $175 to your door (2days old) Also have a 8 inch smoked Freedom Shield (100) to your door. Both are awesome windshields.
