Default Mid Frame Air Deflector

The newer baggers come with a mid frame air deflector. My 05 RKC did not. My question is do they help with the heat on your legs while stopped at traffic signals? When I'm moving the heat isnt a problem. Are they worth the $80?
Question two, do I really need the special oil filter wrench the owners manual suggest or will the good ole strap wrench work?

I debated getting the heat deflectors and finally said what the hell and put them on. Money well spent. I get a lot less heat on my thighs in traffic. I say go for it. As for the oil filter wrench its $10 that makes life a lot easier. I am sure a strap wrench would work but it would be a lot more trouble than just spending $10.

The Crotch Cooler by Captain Itch is MUCH more effective.

As far as filters I like K&N as they have a nut on them so you do not need a filter wrench.

I took off the mid frame deflectors on my 2011 limited and replaced with the Captain, my thighs appreciate it.

I dont like the look, and I think they trap heat and hold it on the rear cylinder, which is hotter to begin with.

RJ's Originals here, works great.
K/N 171-C Oil Filter, easy on and off. Get 'em on Amazon. 11/16" or 17mm socket to remove.

..... for whatever reason, I started getting serious heat on the right thigh last summer just before a trip to Nebraska
... on short notice I installed the Kury deflectors on my '05
....... they worked
.. though after a few months the 2 sided tape that assists in securing the deflector gave way & required some 'retro-fit'

Mine came with the mid frame deflectors and it works as it was designed to do. No heat issues. It also gives a better look to the bike than the empty space anyways.

I like the look, and they seem to help the heat on the leg, but I do think they trap heat.

The only time this thought would hold any water is sitting in traffic. Otherwise, while moving it only makes sense that they would pull air into the rear head.
