Are you sure those were full bottles of oil you started with, and not partially filled bottles you pulled off the shelf?
Hmm... Never thought of that. They were sealed RedLine Primary Case quarts (32oz). But no, I didn't actually check the level of the fluid in the bottles before I poured them in. I just assumed they'd be full 32oz bottles. I know...assume makes an *** out of u.m.e
MY other thought is according to the manual, it says 45oz on a dry fill. If I supposedly poured 64 oz in, that would give me an overage of 19oz... correct? Could that 19 oz make that little of a difference on the level of fluid coming up the clutch and I'm just not seeing it correctly?
So, my options are...
1. Drain the fluid and refill with 32 oz seeing it would be considered a "wet" refill at this point. Regardless of where the level is on visual inspection
or
2. Leave it as is and see how the clutch and shift feel?
Yeah... I think for piece of mind, I'm going to drain and refill. Something doesn't "feel" right there. Is it okay to drain into a clean container and re-use it? I never ran the bike and this stuff is getting pretty costly!!!!
Redline Primary is about $17 a quart at my local HD!!! Yikes!!!

Thanks guys for all of your help!!!
I do it all the time when troubleshooting, no problem.
I just use a clean 2 liter bottle cut in half (as a funnel thing) and let the oil run down it back into your two oil bottles.
If you do it this way, have the second oil bottle at the ready! or.. just get a bigger bottle that holds two quarts...
Okay... I drained all the fluid out and refilled as a "wet" change. My 05 service manual says 32oz "wet" and 45oz "dry". So I refilled it as wet.
Maybe my eyesight is going bad after all these years but I still don't see any oil when I look in through the derby cover. With the bike straight up (as the manual says) or even on the jiffy stand, I'm still not seeing anything.
But... I'm positive I put 32oz in there because I measured it out!
I did open the inspection cover though and could see fluid about half way up the chain tensioner shoe so I know the chain is at least bathing in it.
Wish me luck and again... Thanks for all the help and advice! Thanks for sharing those manual photos too!!!!
I would drain it and refill with proper amount, just for piece of mind and for an answer.
Yep,
You never said why the inner and outer were off, if you get less than you poured in you may want to consider if it was possible you damaged the crank seal and now are filling the crankcase up.....

I had to get to a stripped shifter arm on the tranny shaft. You have to remove the entire primary to get to it on an 05 and I think up to an '09?
I checked the crank and the tranny to make sure the levels were okay there.
Also, when I just drained the primary, I got about two quarts back out which is what I put in. So I don't think it's leaking into any other compartments.
This is the weirdest thing I've run across. Take a clean piece of wire or a clean ty-wrap or something like that and measure the oil level, and then measure it off on the outside of the primary. I'd be really afraid of running it way low. That could get expensive.
