Cool Nitrogen filled tyres

G'day all,

My dealer has been promoting nitrogen gas fill in tyres for a few days.
They say one of the major benefits is that you lose so little gas that you only need to top up between major services.
Anyone out there had nitrogen in their tyres?
Has the top up interval really been that good? i.e. at service intervals only?
Any other benefits you noticed?
The advertising claims such things as less corrosion, better tyre wear and better quality ride - noticed any of these?
I really want to ascertain whether the benefits out weigh the (considerable) costs - getting it done at my dealership is not cheap.

Nitrogen is used in aircraft tires pretty much exclusively. All the claimed benefits are real BUT so small you won't notice any of them. Its really not worth the hassle.

My front tire has not needed air since March 1 to July 15...My back tire needed a little bit 1-3 lbs in that amount of time. That is pretty good...I have rode about 4K miles so far.

Default Filling interval?

I guess the benefit that would be the "dealbreaker" for me is how often you need to top up your gas.
Currently I have to top up weekly due to slight air loss.
If I only had to top up between services that would be a great benefit to me and would probably swing me over to getting nitrogen, as I really hate topping up my air!
So I am really interested in hearing from any riders out there who have nitrogen and the intervals for top ups they have experienced.

That's pretty good. What gas are you running; normal air or nitrogen?

Like he said, there's benefits. But to me, unless it's on a cmv I don't think you'll see any real savings. I've tried it on one mc and two cars and didn't notice any difference in tire life. And for me I live to far from a tire shop that it isn't worth the hassle.

Oh yeah, same thing with the tire dealer 10 years ago...nitrogen.
Think I'll rely on my air compressor and tire gauge, it's been working for me a very long time.

I have nitrogen in my tires but I did it for a different reason. I have tubed tires and use dyna beads so I did not any moisture to clump the beads together. Also I'm a hvac tech so I have tanks of nitrogen available all the time. And the nitrogen tanks we use have no moisture in the tanks. I'm not sure if those dealers use a machine to make the nitrogen and how much of it contains moisture. As far as adding any My tires have been the same pressure for a year now. If your wondering I don't use nitrogen in my car. My car is my car , but my bike is my baby......

My understanding is that the "air" all around us is 78% nitrogen.

We got in to this discussion not too long ago....

If you have to pay for it, don't as it is not worth it.

We use it in aviation for a couple reasons: It's doesn't contain O2 in case of a fire and it has far less moisture than compressed so it is less affected by temp changes.

Do a quick search here and you can read up on the science that we ultimately ended the discussion with.....
