Recently purchased a 97 Electra Glide Classic. Was an Indian rider for 10 years prior to having to sell my bike do to possible house forecloser. Well I must say I'm loving the new ride. On my old bike I installed different shocks to lower my ride height. My question is with the EGC having rear air suspension would I lose a lot of comfort to my ride if I replace the shocks with different shocks to give me a lower ride? Also is there a recommended shock length to install so one doesn't bottom out? I'm 5'8 180 my wife is 5'4 140. Any help would be great
Almost any aftermarket coil over type shock will give you a better ride than factory shocks. I have 11" Pro-Action shocks on my Street Glide and I get a better ride than the 13" HD Premium Adjustable Shocks on the new Harley's. Many choices out there but any upgrade would be an improvement.
Since neither of you are hefty, I wouldn't think you should have any trouble with bottoming out even with shorter shocks. You just have to play with the air pressure to get the most comfortable ride.
Check out,, bitchin bagger shocks, Also they put stops in, so you do not bottom out.
A little less ride, but if you need the reach, this is a great way to go..
And you can lower the front by 1 " too... bitchinbaggers.com
I put the 2" lowering blocks on my 14 limited and didn't change the shocks didn't loose any comfort don't bottom out and cost about $40.00 on ebay.
How many miles do you have on your lowered blocks? I recently put a 2" drop on my 2003 EGC and it is more comfortable for me. Looking for people with long term experience with these in place.
I have 11" Bitchin Bagger lowered stock air shocks in the back and a Progressive Lowering Springs 1" in the front on my 2006 Road King Classic. Fits my 5'4" inch 29" inseam like a glove. My stock seat was lowered by Mean City Cycles. The ride is stiff in the front because I used 30w fork oil, may go to 20w fork oil in the future.I have about 20,000 miles on my set up. I weigh 165 and my my honey about 130. Just my $.02
