Does anyone know if anybody makes an aux fuel tank system for baggers?

I'm thinking of building a tank to fit inside one of the saddlebags, with an electric pump to push the aux gas up and into the regular tank at the crossover line. Just push a button on the bars and watch your tank refill on the fly. About 3 gal and there may still be room for a few things in the bag. Other than building the aux tank, the rest would be a piece of cake. What do you guys think?a one way ball check to prevent back flow would be incorporated--- thoughts?

These are 1 gallon fitted tanks for the bags. May give you a good start on your project.

I think the appealing part of the idea is that you wouldn't need to stop to refill, just push a button and it would refill your regular tank on the go and you still have your fuel gauge to monitor the quantity left.

why not get a camelback water backpack? you can convert it so it holds gas and you just squeeze it on in when you need the gas. or maybe this is better yet maybe you can get a tank from bosshoss and them you will have like 15 gallons.

You can adapt a 08-later tank to the earlier bikes without too much trouble. That adds a gallon. Not a direct bolt-on, but can be done with a minimum of fabrication.

There are also aftermarket 6 and 7 gallon tanks. Custom Chrome has a seven gallon tank for around 600 bucks, for both carbureted and injected touring bikes. Adding two gallons will add 40 percent to your range, and would probablyl be about the limit of most guy's butt endurance.

I'd guess that a three gallon tank inside a standard hard saddlebag will just about fill it, leaving not much room for anything other than gloves, goggles and your registration card. You'd gain range, but lose storage capacity, it's a tradeoff.

I suppose you're planning endurance runs??? Even if you have a 5 gallon tank, that's going to yield almost 200 miles or so. I carry a 1 gallon Reda just in case, but after a few hours, I'm ready to get off and walk around for a minute.

There was a thread just a month or so ago about a rider who had a "certified gas container" in his saddle bag ( I believe he was riding a Street Glide ) that exploded from the heat ... wound up in the hospital and the scooter was a total loss
