Had my 2010 SG engine turned into a 107 last year. Was thinking about adding the AIM VPC clutch but now that's got me thinking about upgrading the spring. The bike was bought new and was upgraded by the dealer at that time from a 96" to a 103. I was 'told' they upgraded the clutch spring too but who knows... Anyhoo, the bike dyno's 115hp/121tq SAE so if any of you gurus can suggest an appropriate spring weight for this kind of power I'm all ears.
Thanks in advance
Get the AIM VPC. Takes about 15 minutes to install.
Definitely going to get the VPC, but I was wondering about adding a heavier spring too, and if so which one. Aim has a few different springs available so I'm unsure. An old thread I was reading from 2012 has FuelMoto recommending the stock spring and an AIM VPC on their 107 builds while Hillside Cycles uses a Barnett spring with AIM's VPC. So now I don't know what's the best spring to go with to hold all that power, definately don't want the clutch slipping under any load yet I dont want too heavy of a clutch pull under stop and go city traffic.
Beware that most people hate the heavy pull on the SE spring.
It may be necessary at your power level, but it may not.
It will do the job, but may be stiffer than you need.
I would continue to research.
Had the SE spring on my 95" build RK and hated it, way to heavy a pull for stop and go traffic but I figured if the VPC can alleviate the hard pull at slow speeds/low RPM then that's the route I will go. Also considering a ClutchWiz too, just don't know what's the best direction to take at this point.
The only thing you need at your power level is a SE spring.
Granted my Dyna is a bit lighter bike, but the SE spring with the 107 has performed well. When FM installed my 107, I was told the SE spring was 'good enough'.
