Default Bike Got Banged Up....

But I'm fine....I wasn't on the bike when it happened. I had taken the bike into the shop to have a new rear Metz installed. As I was returning from lunch (walking), I noticed the tech that installed the new tire taking the bike out fora test drive. As he took off onto the street he lost control and down he went. He suffered a few cuts, bruises and a broken nose, but otherwise he's okay. The bike, on the other hand, suffered roughly $1500-$2000 damage. Outer fairing, engine guard, left saddlebag lid, tour pak lid and brake light housing, left side spot light, passenger board (I think that's everything?). The shop owner is REALLY bummed out and has put a rush on the parts so that I can still leave on my trip in two weeks.

If you're in the northwoods of WI over the next two weeks and see a middle-aged bald guy with a long face riding around in a cage, that would be me!

Man that sucks! You would think a tech would at least know how to ride.
I can't, he can, so I'll let him.

RanD

THAT IS A BUMMER [&o][&o][&o] And we have a nice WI weekend in store too [:@][:@][:@]

Shouldn't the dealer be liable and give you the loaner of your choice until everything is back to normal on your scoot???

Should be entitled to that IMHO.

Thanks folks. In terms of how he lost it, I think he hadn't completely cleaned off the soapy lube he used to assist in installing the new tire. That, and the City had recently put down a tar filler in the cracks of the road. As soon as he began to turn left he slipped sideways, and like so often happens, he sort of 'over-corrected' and lost control. I agree about getting a loaner, and if not for the fact that I'm leaving in a couple of weeks on a 3500 mile cruise, I'd want one. But I guess I can wait until then

Sorry to hear about that. Thats a rough one. I have to ask this question tho, why would a tech need to take the bike out for a run after installing a new tire? I do my own work, never go to the dealer unless its warrenty work. Is that typical, to take a bike for a test run for a rear tire install?

Some of us may understand how you can be so calm. There's just something to be said for "serenity" my friend. I would think that he should have the bike road ready for you in less than 2 weeks. Stay calm and when you do get the scoot back,....be careful when leaving the place,....that first turn is a bummer....

It's been many years, but when I was doing service work on bikes it was mandatory to take the thing for a test ride. I actually had a new tirego flaton a test ride once. (Bad tube) I'd rather have that sort of thinghappen before the customer goes cruisin' off down the road.

As a matter of course, we always inflated tires to the minimum, so they were noticably low. We'd test ride briefly,(up/down the street, no high speed) and then return to the shop to fill the tire to the proper pressure, then test ride again. This served to help seat the tube / tire beadand avoided the new 'slick tire' syndrome.

In the case of this particular thread, itwell could have been RanD who went down if the mechanic did not test ride the bike.
