Seems like nice bike, cam chain tenshioners should be inspected, no compensator issues on this year , 5 speed trans. Is bulletproof, newer bikes have more features and more issues.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I listened carefully for noise from the cam chain and primary tensioners. Didn't hear anything unusual. This is about all I can do short of opening up the motor. The bike has been well maintained. It needs nothing, and the mileage is not a concern. I plan to buy the bike.
For a couple of grand more you could step up to a newer ride with a 6 speed tranny and a 96 cc motor. That is a big plus.
I agree with this ^. I have an '07 and bought it while I still had an '04 Dyna with the 88" and 5 speed tranny. The added gear and larger engine are a nice step up, especially for the tourers. However, having said that, there a many pre '07 bikes on the road with many happy riders atop them. Go with your gut instinct. The bike does look very good and the price seems pretty fair.
Other than the mileage I would say it is a fair price. Mileage would be a no go for me tho.. That is just me.... For a couple of grand more you could step up to a newer ride with a 6 speed tranny and a 96 cc motor. That is a big plus.
There's high demand for baggers in the Chicago and Milwaukee area. Two grand more wouldn't buy much, especially for a bike in this condition. It literally looks and runs like new. 40k miles is nothing. I once had an '83 FLT with +80k miles when I sold it.
The mileage maybe a non issue for you but others don't want a higher mileage bike. Use it as a tool and offer less. 8 grand would be a good deal at 9 grand I'd wait till the snow starts falling and look for a newer bike with less mileage. He may even still have it by then.
I think it is a good buy. I would how ever open up that cam cover and look at the tensioners. If the front one is worn you can bet the rear one is worse. I would add that into the price. If they needed changed out.
