cartridge fork
2005 ultra
would like to get rid of the left front fork(has the cartridge in it) and make a non cartridge fork like the right side . what do I need to do this ? is there a fork off a newer bike or older that will work?
thanks mike

So you want to make you suspension even worse by taking out the cartridge? What do you plan on achieving other than uniformity of your fork internals. You dont need to buy a new fork leg. Just rebuild it
Just buy the internals and remove the fork cap that is located on the top of your fork shock. A service manual will gladly assist you in the process of removing that cartridge. If you can't handle that type of work, then take it to a suspension expert in your area or your local indy.

I don't think you have a real cartridge fork - Harley put a valve in them that loosely simulates a cartridge. You can use the internals from a right fork in the left. But I'm also curious why you want to do this. Most people go the other way and put emulator valves in both sides. Joe
well if it gonna make it worse then no I don't want to do it ,, someone told me about this and that it would not make a diff in the handling,, just wanted to make it easier on changing out the fluids the next time..
thanks guys
guess I will just leave it as is
I did manage to change the fluid in the life while on the bike ,, took a while to get all the fluid back in but did get it done

If you want to rid yourself of the maintenance issue of changing the fork oil have a look at fork cartridge kits like the Progressive monotube or Ohlins. The side benefit is you will get substantially better handling and ride.
All forks need oil, regardless of whether you have cartridges or not, as the bushings and tubes need to be lubricated every time they move. There is no way of getting out of changing fork oil! Some fork cartridges may be sealed with their oil inside, but they will still be operating in an oil bath. Ohlins FKC101 forks, of which I have a pair, use the fork oil and are not sealed, so come the time to change the fork oil the forks will need to be dismantled, to empty the cartridges.
