I had an 02 RK and went to 95" with 203 cams, V&H slips, SE A/C and Powercommander. Yes it was WELL worth the bucks. Roll on's from 55-60 mph to 80 in just a few seconds and no down shifting was great when needing to pass semi's on the slab, or slow cars. Plenty of pull in the Rockies riding two up and loaded down with lil' darlings woman stuff (lots of it). Total cost, as I remember it, was about $800 labor from indy (included adjustable push rods and cometic head gasket) plus about $800 in parts. I kept the stock jugs and had them bored to fit the pistons rather than spend the dollars for mass produced 95" jugs. PC was another $250 or so and dyno tuned after break-in was another $200. I'd do it again on an 88".... now have an 07 EGC and thinkn' about it again, but will wait until next winter to see how the new girl pulls as a stocker.
A local Indy here in Nm will do it for $1500. Including new cams and boring out the heads. Doesn't seem all that bad. Maybe for my birthday in June? I heard the ol' lady talking on the phone the other day (she didn't know I was listening). I would love to do it myself. Anybody in NM want to help me out with the build?
From: i live outside Omaha Ne on the Iowa side in the Loes hills, some great places to ride
RE: need help.....
Dude 5K is alot to spend on an engine biuld.
so i would take alot of time and look around , ask tons of questions.
i had mine done at the dealer before picking it up so i used all Harley parts. so far have been fairly happy but had not rode it tuned up. it is at the dealer now getting cams changed to Woods TW-400 cams. There are alot of people here that know what they are doing. if you listen and learn you can have a hoped up Harley for less than your 5K
5K is not a lot to spend on an engine build but it depends on what you are getting for that 5K. If it were me I would go to a good Indy
and go aftermarket instead of Harley. You will get better bang for the buck there. I'm not knocking Harley but they are limited somewhat by the EPA on their hop up kits
