my 07 SG had ultra shocks on it and it rode like a marshmallow on a cloud, is it possible to buy new ultra shocks and replace my rough riding standard shocks??? is it a direct bolt on or does it have to be modified???
I'm guessing you had 13" air shocks on your 07. If so you should be able to replace the 12" shocks on your RG with some 13" air shocks. Do you have a standard RG with air shocks or a Special with the premium adjustable shocks?
I have a 2010 EG with stock 13" air shocks. A friend just bought a 2015 RG and let me ride it. I understand exactly what you are complaining about. The ride was so stiff I hated it. My 2010 rides 100x smoother.
One of the reasons is the low profile tires that allows you to feel every imperfection in the road. When you couple that with those 12" shocks, you have a complete recipe for a stiff, harsh, ride as compared to Electra Glides.
Yes, you can go with 13" air shocks which would be an economical upgrade or you can go with a 13" aftermarket coil over shock at a more substantial cost.
Interesting I thought my 07 rode like crap and changing to Ohlins 13" helped a lot but this 16 RGS suspension is the bomb. None of the harshness or bottoming out like the 07 did and the suspension seems well tuned. I honestly don't know why people don't like the Rushmore suspension. It seems very dialed in to me.
