Anyone not putting miles on thier scoot so the trade in is higher should have thier man card taken away. Trade in and more money should not be thought of in the same sentence.

Im glad I ran into this thread!

I have a 14 RK and it has been rock solid reliable, not one repair on the bike since bought new other then maintenance (tires, brakes, ect) Stock engine no CAT.

Now don't laugh but its the longest I owned a bike, I was getting concerned as I now have just over 25,000 miles on it. *L*
However, Im in love with this bike, paint color, ect and darn it, no matter how much I look for an excuse to buy a new bike, I will not ever be able to consider an M8 RK until I know all the issues have been fixed on that engine. The 103 HO has been tried, true and perfected, to me, the M8 is still a child with some heartbreaking issues for some owners.

So I did start looking for a lower mileage 2016 RK to avoid the M8 but nothing comes close for me personally because Im really hooked on the paint color of my bike.
From what I read, I have a lot of trouble free miles to travel while they fix the issues on the M8s, if ever, gulp.

I do my own maintenance fluids/filters/plugs ect at the recommended mileage/time in the manual, actually in about half the recommended time. Formula+ in the trans and primary and 15w50 semi syn diesel oil as recommended by HD. (Mystik JT8)

How you ride and how you maintain your bike is how you get high mileage.

Doing burn outs and reving the **** out of your engine is high wear.

Using a quality oil and changing it in conjunction with how you ride it is key.

I mostly ride on weekends and do lunch. Maybe 2,000 per year. So I change all three holes once a year with Mobil One V-twin
and Mobile One gear oil in the tranny.

I also have a 18 Camaro that is now another weekend toy plus a 04 jet ski which is the reason for low miles on the bike.

However my daily driver is a 13 Kia Rio with 100,000 miles I bought new. Been using Mobil One 5W-20 since new and I always change it myself at 5,000 miles. Still getting 31 miles per gallon driving to work which is only 22 miles round trip.
I have the coolant changed every three years with the extended fluid and have the auto transmission drained and filled every 30,000 miles.

So again, good oil, change as per how you ride, and don’t beat the **** out of it. These are cruisers, not crouch rockets.

Was their not a saying Harley perfected going slow?

Most forum posts are from people who have some problem needing to be solved. The good stuff rarely gets posted. I firmly believe many problems are brought on due to poor maintenance service, poor repair work, poor workmanship, incorrect upgrades, cheap replacement parts, or generally lack of up keep. To all those that say these guys with 100k trouble free miles are a rarity, I say BS. Many bikes are trouble free, they just don't see any attention. 100k miles of riding on one bike, that is awesome!

Amazing
1. Your crank did not garnade at 10K
2. Transmission did not fall apart 15K
3. The clutch did not need to be replaced a 5K
I could go on all night.
Living in Wisconsin I average 20-60K a years work gets in the way some times but soon that will no longer be a problem
I hear ya Brother, I'm about to retire at the end of the year.

My 1989 ElectraGlide only made it to 155k-160k miles before the crank case split. My 2002 had a couple sensor issues at 19 years old and 5ok miles.

I know a few folks near me with 80k+ on their stock 2019 ElectraGlide 114 engines and no issues. We are all stock with the exception of slip-on mufflers and perhaps a different intake. 3 out of 5 pull trailers.
