Default RKC learher saddlebag mod

Can't find it if there is one. Saw some posts on it a few weeks ago. Looking for a mod to mount the straps on hard leather saddle bags so I don't have to unbuckle them every time I open the lids. Thanks.

I do recall the post, I think the guy cut the straps. I never unbuckle mine. The quick release snaps only take a second to unsnap and snap back together. I'm sure you have enough time to do that when you need to access the bags.

I use the quick buckles too, but its more the re- buckling when you close the lid that gets annoying.

Yours has snaps? Mine has an extra set of black plastic buckles behind the chrome buckles.

I had read on another forum where someone cut the straps from the lid and just riveted the top straps to the outside of the bag. When the lid was closed you never saw the rivets. Since they don't lock I believe he somehow altered the locking mechanism from the Road King Custom bag.

Pretty sure they all came with plastic quick-snap clips behind the chrome buckles, mine did. What would be the point of a buckle behind a buckle?

Are you talking about snaps or buckles. Mines has plastic side release buckles behind. A snap would be like what little kids have on their jeans. A plastic buckle would be like what you would see if you googled plastic buckle.

The " plastic side release buckles" is what you use to open your bags.

Well of coarse, Why would I open them with the metal belt buckles....don't need a manual to tell me that. The other guy said he had snaps on his. I started to wonder if at one point they had snaps on them instead of the plastic buckle. The plastic buckles are still a pain...not to unbuckle but to re-buckle.
