I posted about earlier about true duals vs slip ons I forgot to ask what exactly is a stage 1...Is that just the air cleaner or is it a download... If I use a pc111 doesn't that take the place of the ecm which negates the stage one download??? sorry total newbie here...
Welcome to the forums! ... and your question ... is a good one.
When you are talking about exhaust you would be talking a "Stage 1 Air Cleaner" such as the AN Big Sucker or Screamin Eagle Stage 1 Air Cleaner (SEAC) and a modification to the fuel intake.
Typically the stock mufflers are not 'free flowing' and are somewhat restricted. When you go to a new free-flowing exhaust (even with baffles in them) as compared to the stock ones you need to increase the amount of AIR intake. And to compensate for the increased air intake you increase the amount of fuel as well. This will help balance things out. You can go with a PC-III (Power Commander III) a SERT (Screamin Eagle Race Tuner), Thundermax, or even cheaper with something like a Fuel Pack (by V&H). If the ONLY change you are making to your bike is the exhaust system (whether it be new slipons or true duals) You can go with a Fuel Pack. However if you are making actual ENGINE-MODS as well (different cams, Big Bore Kit....etc) then I would NOT recommend a fuel pack but go with something like a PC-III or SERT or Thundermax.
Also it will depend on your bike as to what might be recommended. If you have an '07 then you have 2 O2 Sensors. Using a Fuel Pack or a PC-III bypasses the O2 sensors. Where the SERT will utilize the O2 sensors. Something like the Thundermax actually comes with their own O2 sensors which are WIDEBAND O2 sensors (Stock O2 sensors on the '07s are narrowband) and replace the stock ones.
Lots of possibilities for you. I made an exhaust change to mine (RineHart True Duals) and I put on the SEAC and the V&H Fuel Pack. Down the road I'm gonna rip out that Fuel Pack and end up with the Thundermax.
thanks for all the information... I posted and then got antzy (is that even a word) anyway got away with myself and saw a post about the rush slip ons... saw someone ordered them from fuelmoto, so I gave them a call... very informative... I ended up ordering the rush 2.0 slip ons with the straight cut.. just like the flat look better than a slash. a powercommander with the 6200 rev limiter, and a k&n air filter kit which Jamie says is the same as a stage one..According to him by getting the power commander I will not need the stage 1 download from harley because between the map they will load, and the k&n it is the same...hopefully he didn't steer me wrong,,,, so I guess I will soon have a stage 1....I just hope it sounds the way I am hoping... we shall see two weeks and counting....pretty good price about 687.00 including shipping...hopefully it is a good price.. I priced out the screamin eagle slip ons at 413 at the dealer, and that was only for the slip ons which I am seeing arent that loud... wish me luck putting it all together now when I get it... oh yea and he also said it should help with the heat as well??
