Man am I ever frustrated. I installed a PCIII USB yesterday. Loaded my map. Took it for short spin then zeroed the throttle. All went well. Went for a short ride and I noticed my speedometer quit - in fact no brake or turns, cruise or horn also. I found the 15 amp ACC fuse blown. I replaced it and all seemed well.
Now tonight, I have a weird situation where the turn signals, brake lights and horn do not work while the running light on the front fender and the speedo do! No blown fuse of course because they are all on the same circuit. I have retraced my steps in installing the PCIII just in case I knocked a ground loose or something but I can find NO REASON for this happening. Does anyone have a suggestion for me? Please? Thanks very much.
Well here's an update on my frustration. Turns out it appears it has nothing to do with my PCIII install.
Ibegan at the speedo where the orange/white wire is still working and began to trace it back. I found that the brake lights come on when I pull on the orange/white wire where it runsfrom the fairing and then under the gas tank - which is good - except I'm NOT HITTING THE PEDAL!!What could cause that?
However, the good news isI have probably locatedthe approximate location of the problem. None of it makes alot of sense though - I'll post more after I take the tank off and lay bare the wiring harness.
Perhaps "pulling" was not the correct way to describe how I found it but I was thinking - I could rig a string from the orange/white wire just long enough to hold it in my teeth . . .and everytime I want to stop . . . all I have to do is pull on the string - bingo problem solved!
Sound like chaffing or a short in a harness.
Very carefully inspect every inch on the wire until you either find chaffing or can replicate the fault every time you want to.
Then you can isolate the problem and repair the chaffing or repair or replace the ahrness if that is the problem.
Sounds to me like you are very close to finding out the problem.
