Depending on your physical stature, 96 was the last year of the old frame. 97's were an inch lower. The only problems I ever had with my 96 EGlide was starter drive/pinion related. and my clutch basket blew apart. If the bike has been to a dealer for service in the last 7 years, the fuelcock recall was probably taken care of. If not, put a pingel on it.
Good points. The problem with that old frame is that if you want certain parts (seat, saddlebag guards, engine guard, etc.) the corresponding parts for newer bikes won't fit. This becomes irritating when you are looking for a part on Ebay, for example, as some are very scarce.

I also installed a Pingle soon after the original petcock gave me trouble on the 1998 Sturgis trip. On that trip it almost stalled twice, but regained its composure quickly after letting off the throttle, in each case in the mountains when manifold vacuum was very low (climbing hills, etc.).

Good points made here, I purchased my 95 King in 05 and lucked out.
Sat in a garage for ten years and only had 2K on it, got it for 10,500
Best deal I ever made, it was bone stock then sent it to my builder to "go to town on it"
One concern I would pay attention to is if it Fuel Injected, not sure if this was an option back then.
The old Magna Marrelli systems are no good if you intend to modify and some of them had problems.
I was lucky and mine is carbed

Storm4u, I think if your bike was EFI you'd have a different opinion! "I'm lucky", and mine is EFI. Magnetti-Marelli to be exact, and I can showyou a lotof them running well over 100 hp on the rear wheel. Including mine! Trouble-free from day 1 through various modifications. Like all things HD, there were issues with some early MM systems that were obviously corrected. And the MM throttle bodies are bored by reputable companies like BC Gerolomy with great results.

Firetender I would be suprised with the older "stock" EFI producing those #'s because I've heard nothing but the contrary from Harley shops and Indy's. I don'trecall any aftermarket itemsavailable in that time period for EFI, but if you have one of them with no problems Great!!. And I wouldn'thave a different opinion about my King, for what I have done with it, how I ride it I prefer the carb.
I have two other bikes that are Fuelie but the Delphi system however I'll change em out to TMax if I keep them that way.
For the next bike which will be either a Road Glide or Ultra I wouldn't have anything but Fuel Injected, of course I don't have a ckoice on that one do I?

How do the state football coaches like Coach Saban andthe new Bama staff?

sure Joe. If it's clean, and as you say, well maintained, that's a pretty good price. Course, as a general rule, I always offer less than what they're asking, but $8,000 isn't bad anyways.

WOW!!
Thanks for all of the replies. The bike is carberated and I didn't notice any buildup around the cylinder base. The bike is very clean. I'll ask about the cam bearing. You guys really helped alot. Thanks for your time!! Hope to be owning a Road King (maybe this one) very soon.

Eric
