Default Easy Docking Point Question

I got my hands on a 4 point luggage rack. I have 2 point docking hardware on my bike. Can I just add 2 point docking hardware or do I need to scrap what I have and get 4 point hardware?

The luggage rack should go on the 2 point one you have mounted on your bike

I don't think it'll fit. Someone can verify, but I think the width on the rack is too narrow for your 2-point hardware, and even if you get it on, the rack angle will not be level.

I think you'll need the 4-pointer.

Well if that's the case than he will have to buy the 4 point hardware I've never heard of them just adding to a 2 point to make it work. Doesn't a luggage rack fit on the same points that a backrest would?

Long answer short is it depends, what year is the RK? I use docking points on my '03 EG as follows

All - Front fork each side into front dock rubbers near front of fender strut @ shock mounts

Seat back or short mounting - Cam lock onto poly covered posts near back of fender strut

Tour pack or long mounting - Cam lock onto poly covered posts on chrome loop mount

Like this...

If I remember, the front and far back came as a set for a removable tour pack and the middle pegs were for adding the detachable seat back purchased as another kit.

No the back rest doesn't dock at the same points as the tour pak. I have an 06 EG. I have a quick detach tour pak. I had the quick detach back rest/sissy bar. But it did not mount in the same docking points. I had to buy the 4 point hardware. All works fine now

the luggage rack needs the 4-point mount - the 2-point is only good for a backrest and uses the shock mounts as the front attachment on the newer frame.

The OP didn't list what year his bike is, and I don't know if the docking assemblies changed any over the years.

But for 2009 - 2013

2 Point = Passenger backrest only

4 Point = Passenger backrest + luggage rack
4 Point = Luggage Rack Only
4 Point = Tour Pack Only

For 2014 an up, there is only the 4 Point hardware available.

Bottom line is you will need the 4 Point docking hardware for anything other than the passenger backrest.
